So, I took the jump and did as Magnaminous_G did and sent out an offer for free hand sharpening to everyone in my office, to give me more blades to practice sharpening on. A few have already shown interest (sent it out 30 minutes ago).

I included a list of things I won't sharpen, so hopefully there won't be many bent or cracked blades :).

Wish me luck :D

What! No cross cut saw blades? Good luck and most of all have fun.

Blessings,

Omar

Good luck and have fun! The list of things you won't sharpen is a good idea. I don't sharpen serrated knives, recurved knives, or weapons (swords, daggers, etc.).

If the folks in your office are anything like the ones in mine, you're going to get lots of crap... abused crap. :P But when you're sharpening a wide variety of knives every day and doing lots of reprofiling and edge correcting, it's awesome from an experience perspective.

If you don't have a really good coarse stone (sub 200 grit) then buy one now. As Mag said LOT'S of abused knives will need new bevels. LOT'S!

Thanks for the tip. I'll assess the state of the first blades I get and take it from there. I think I'll just turn down blades that are too badly damaged to begin with.

There are few things nicer than a freshly sharpened crosscut saw!

The only thing nicer is to have someone on the other end that knows what they are doing!

Cut lots of wood with one back in my (much) younger days. They make some great knives when they are worn out too.

Blessings,

Omar
