sharpening golok

I just got a BRKT golok, 11 inches of convex ground a2 but it isn't very sharp currently. I am not sure a golok requires or would even bennifit significantly from a "scary" sharp edge but I feel it does need to be improved some. Any suggestions on how to sharpen this beast? btw. its an awesome blade, super balance, super micarta handle big enough to allow multiple grips. What I am hoping to achieve is a very sharp edge towards the handle and a sharper but not shaving sharp edge for the rest of the blade where most of the chopping impact will occur.

thanks in advance for your assistance.

The golok would benefit from the sharpest edge you can apply. There are a number of ways to sharpen convex bevels, the easiest is with a slack belt sander and buffer. You can also use sandpaper on a soft backing. It can also be done with a simple benchstone. I hone all my large convex grind with small hand stones and finish on CrO loaded leather.

So do you move the stone along the length of the blade from guard to tip alternating sides? Then a strop with polishing compound, is there a specific technique for honing evenly with a large/long blade and small stone or leather surface?

I work from spine to edge in small sections. You go by feel, it sounds harder than it actually is to do.
