I am getting a Spyderco Stretch in Hap40 for Christmas.

Does anyone have any tips about sharpening it?

Any unique characteristics or quirks?

I have diamond hones and ceramics, as well as Norton India stones, so I'm good equipment wise.

How does this steel behave in use and on a stone?

If you get that new you won't have to worry about sharpening her for a while.

It's very easy to sharpen in my experience, along the same lines as VG-10. I use the Medium Sharpmaker rods for touch ups and it only takes a few swipes to get hair popping.

I wouldn't say is like VG-10, it's harder and a lot more wear resistant. It reminds me more of A2 or a lower HRc M4.

I have a Delica and Stretch in hap40, I sharpen them to a medium grit followed by a light stropping. I like my Kohetsu 800 or my Shapton Glass 500 with a few light strokes on the 2k Glass stone. A simple King 1k also works very well on this steel, a little slower but you can get a very nice edge straight from the stone.

This might be my new favorite steel.

It takes a wicked edge, holds it plenty well, and touches up easily.
