Hi all,

I have just bought Gerber LMF II and I'm very happy with the sharpness edge from the factory (hair shaving sharpness). However, I did a field testing by cuting and shaping a brance to make like a spear point. I'm not sure that this knives is top of the range or not but after doing the field test, I find out that the edge is abit blunt.

How do i sharpen the knive? what's a good sharpening tool to have and to use? I have no experince with sharpening a knive.

Any help is very much appreciated.

regards,
Melissa

A Spyderco Sharpmaker is a good sharpener for beginners. It comes with a video cassette so you can see what/what not to do. Welcome to the forums.

The gerber LMF II should come with a sheath that has a built in sharpener, you have to take off a small velcro backed patch close to the center of the sheath. you should be able to run the blade through the sheath a few times and it will be pretty sharp again. not quite as good as hand sharpening though.

If I'm not mistaken, all LMF II's are partially serrated, so the Sharpmaker would be my recommendation since it can sharpen the entire blade. The 12C27 steel in your Gerber should take a very fine edge with little trouble. You may find that the edge holds up better than it did after a few sharpenings, too.
