Okay, so I got myself a Spyderco Goldstone for Christmas. I'm having some real problems using it, an I need help. Everytime I use it, I develop what feels like a bur or lopsided edge on my knives. I'm considering selling it and sticking with my sharpmaker. I'm really starting to think that I'm absolutely useless at sharpening, I either have this problem, or the knife comes out dull beyond belief. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Can somebody help me?

If your definition is the same as mine, a burr is good thing. Now as to the lopsided edge. You will just have to practice. Buy cheap knives you aren't afraid to ruin. I have sharpened 10-15 knives and I am just now starting to be pleased with the results. I use a Lansky guided system. I recently tried free hand sharpening and I put a 30 degree angle on each side of the knife!

When finishing up sharpening, just use less pressure. During the main part of sharpening 3-5 pounds of pressure is good. Instead of grinding away the burr, your just pushing it to the other side. Did you only get the goldstone? You also just have to practice, use something like a binder clip to keep the same angle(just set it on the stone and lay the spin on a certain area of it then pull it away and sharpen, repeat for the other side). I really can't find any information on the goldstone, could you tell me about it? Like if it's coarse/fine/medium or what and stuff
