has any body used a diamond sharping card (dmt d3efc) in the field If so how well did it work. As a general question when you are packing light what do you use in the field to maintain a knives edge? as always thanks for the info

I have some 400 grit sandpaper glued to the bottom of my PSK. Should work in a pinch if needed. I also have an extra fine DMT pocket stone in my bag. I don't have any experience with the DMT cards though.

Never used one. I have sandpaper and leather taped to my altoids tin.

I have the 600 grit card. I glued some 1200 grit film to the back of it. It works for me as long as I have enough light to see what I am doing.

I just picked up the Spyderco Double Stuff and have been very pleased with it for a pocket sharpener.

I've had good luck with the dc3 sharpener. Diamond on one side in case you really nerf the edge up and a medium grit on the other side for general maintaining.

I have a DMT tapered cone sharpener that I can use for serrations if I happen to be carrying a blade that has them. It also works quite well on plain blades.

I either carry a Falkniven DC4 or a DMT Diafold Fine Extra Fine, although honestly a well made knife will hold it's edge plenty well for a couple of days of normal use in the woods. Just my opinion. I'm very happy with either systems, but I tend to use the Diafolds more

I haven't taken a shapener out into the field but I'd take eiter a coarse/fine dia-fold or maybe the x-fine/xx/fine (but that wouldn't help much if your blade really got dull).

I like that Spyderco Double Stuff that prime77 posted. Looks the same as the two rods in the Sharpie.

Almost bought the cards, but didn't, looked flimsy and hard to use. I ended up buying a few of those DMT plastic backed 1" x 4" "stones" though. Super light, feels like 1 oz each, and I have extra course, medium, and extra fine. Weighs nothing, and pretty compact. I wrap paracord around along with some zipties, and voila! Cordage, zipties, and sharpeners! And I EDC it

I use a DMT Diafold (red/green) in the field.

DMT dia-folds are pretty unbeatable in the home or field. So many combos, cool butterfly knife presentation make them economical on size and easy to carry.

I take 3 little sharpeners with me. Lansky folding paddle like the DMT mentioned above, cheap gerber diamond rod and little pocket sharpener as backups and to share. Gerber diamond rod is the worse one. I've stuffed a Spyderco Sharpmaker in a pack and taken it with me also.

sometimes I use DMT diafolds, and more often now, I'm using the Spyderco's Profile set 701MF...

I mostly use a Fallkniven D4 and it works pretty great. Cuts fast, takes up practically no space, and leaves a nice toothy edge.

Another DC4 fan here. I also really like the Eze-lap model "M" sportmans rod. It puts a great working edge on any knife. One of the best of the rod-type sharpeners , Imo.
I carry them and a firesteel in a green belt pouch in the woods.
