Sharpening issue

Last night I sharpened my Gayle Bradley on the sharpmaker. The first 3/8 of the blade, where i start my downstroke is almost distorted looking. And the last 3/8 on the edge isn't near as sharp as the middle.

I sharpened at 40 degrees, and I don't think I ever got to the apex towards the end of the blade, after probably 100 strokes on the diamond stones. I know I got the the apex in the middle, I used a sharpe

I am very frustrated, anyone know what's going on?
 
It will take some time on the stones with the SM... :) Just like you've been doing mark the edge up with sharpie... And just work one side at a time.. It's not a number of strokes thing, you need to just pay attention to the edge/sharpie removal until you've matched your entire bevel ...

Alright cool. I'll keep after it. It takes a long time! I am however very happy with the level of sharpness I achieved on the middle. I lightly touched my arm and hair went flying off
 
How would that secondary bevel have happened?
I'm new to sharpening and would like all the insight I can get :)
 
He's just saying the your edge is not the same DPS(Degrees Per Side) throughout the edge. Which is why you have sharp middle and not other :)

It will take time to grind down the other parts of the edge to match the rest. You can focus just on the parts that need to be ground down to match the rest and follow up with full strokes to make scratch pattern even

The blade will also thicken throughout the edge from tip to heel which will cause this
 
Nice location. You'd be better off reprofiling your GB on dmt or mold master stones and then use the SM for micro beveling/touch ups.
 
Yeah it took me about 4 hours today to get it where I wanted. Of course TV in the background
 
Haha! Good man! Now that's patience :) If you take your time and do it right on the first stone and progressing stones it will save you time in the end. For example...not going back and having to redo it. Frequently check your edge as you sharpen to see what going on.
