I usually sharpen puukko grinds that way -- creating a tiny secondary bevel -- a number of times before I regrind the primary bevel. I don't ever let a blade get very dull -- my rule is to sharpen when convenient or when parts of the edge no longer shave well, whichever comes first. As long as it isn't severely dulled, all it takes is a few swipes on a tripoli-charged strop. Then when that's no longer enough to restore it, a few swipes on a fine hone and then strop. You can do that a number of times before there's enough of a secondary bevel to make any noticeable difference in cutting. A puukko grind with a secondary bevel that's barely visible to the naked eye cuts very much like a puukko grind with no secondary bevel.
The beauty of that is you can restore an incredibly keen edge in no time at all -- half the reason puukko grinds are so cool.
