Just got a Spyderco Delica 4 in K390. To my surprise, this is the first new Spyderco I have recieved that was really dull. I mean, really dull, as in you can "saw' it back and forth on your arm and not cut. Must have slipped by quality control at the factory. I have never sharpened K390 before. Any tips? I have heard it is best not to go much finer than a 400 grit diamond hone, as this steel likes a little aggressive edge better than a polished one?

I take my k390 PM2 to 800 and strop it in between sharpenings. It will whittle hair at that point, and maintains a fantastic edge for a long time. I use Venev bonded diamond. The 800\stropped edge is more polished and I think it works well.

It's not bad to sharpen really. I take mine to 1200 diamond, haven't tried the spyderco ceramics on it yet, but it takes an aggressive edge even at higher grits.
