Sharpening Kershaw Zing

I am having trouble sharpening my Kershaw Zing (grooved blade) with my Smith's Diamond Arkansas field kit. I've used the yellow and orange diamond and the red stone hone and both angles with the T bar and it seems to only get more dull....with the same set-up I brought a 60 year-old military fixed blade back to a good edge. Help please!!!!

Factory edge is 25' per side 50' inclusive. Make sure you get a good bur on one side before switching sides. Mine's at 17' a side 34' inclusive Knifenut went a little thinner. Polished up good that 14C28N IMHO is in the same class as ATS-34.

Washington, not according to my Lansky it isn’t:) Maybe one of the true Kershaw nutz will ring in on this but the Zing(Mint) and the Needs Work (Blem) I just got were above 20’ to begin with, I can’t comment on the Leeks or their “smaller” knives unless I just got 2 obtuse outliers.

They have people hand sharpening these on belt sanders at roughly 20 degrees per side. So the people are only human and have no real guides or angle setters. They still come mega sharp. And OP, try going a few more swipes per stone to get the bevel all the way set out. And dont push too hard on the stones either. Hope this helps.

I stand corrected from Kershaw’s site http://kershawknives.com/faq.php?brand=kershaw
“Q: To what angle should I sharpen my Kershaw blade?
A: Kershaw blades are sharpened to a range of angles, depending on the type of steel and end-use of the knife. Generally, Kershaw knives are sharpened to angles of between 20° and 22°.”

Get a marker and completely cover the edge with it. If your sharpening action doesn't completely remove the mark, then you're not actually touching the edge. In this case change the angle until you find one where the mark can be removed.

If you can remove the mark completely, you just need to keep going until you can feel a burr, then move to the other side.

Thanks, all those suggestions help, think I'll try the marker suggestion. It does look as if the edge is at a much sharper angle than 20....the Smith's T-bar is 20 bottom slot and 25 top. I've tried both, but will try again. Thanks.
