hi,

i got myself a 204 sharpmaker from spyderco yesterday and ive gotten all my knives to shaving sharp. :D however there is one knife that gives me trouble. my crkt kiss i cant even get close to shaving sharp. it doesnt quite fit the 40* angle because of the way the blade is shaped. anyone with a sharpmaker and a kiss have any tips or suggestions?

thanks

You might have to reprofile it on the 30 degree angle and then sharpen on the 40 degree angle. This is the method Spyderco recommends with their Sharpmaker. You may have some shoulders on the Kiss but I think this should take care of the problem. Be patient, it may take some time and stroking before it is sharp. I would get it sharp at 30 and then finish at 40.

For some reason you have to rough up the ceramic rods (I don't know why they come already from the factory but...) for them to start sharpening good.

Also, I think you want to mainly sharpen on the beveled side and just take the burr off of the flat very lightly at a very low or flat angle.
