Hi Folks,

I am new to this forum but thought I would kick off with a link to a posting on my UK survival forum.

A guy who is well into Axes and knives put up a thread on knife sharpening with a kit he made himself for under £10:00 using wooden boards and various grades of EMERY PAPER, if you want a look at this kit go to......

I can vouch for this kit as I have started sharpening my blades with it, and a shaven arm now needs regrowing.

Sandpaper for sharpening is probably a fairly old idea, the first time it was popularized on the internet was on the woodworking usenet group and got the scary sharp label, this was sandpaper on glass. The main benefit was to be able to get really sharp push cutting edges without spending the extreme amounts of money for ultra fine stones. It was used on planes in that example, Lee discusses it in his book on sharpening as well. It is a great way to get started because you can often pick up packs of sample sandpaper in a few grits at craft or hobby stores for a dollar. The linked book at the end of the above thread is a great idea to keep it organized and packable.
