If you had to go to a bad place for a long time, and wanted to limit your INFI/SR101 sharpening supplies to about one pound and the space of half a claymore bag/1qt ziploc, what would that kit include? It must have the ability to do serious sharpening as well as routine maintenence. Thanks for your help!

For me I'd get:

The 6" steel from HandAmerican. No handle and the sheath is made from stropping leather. A matching ceramic stick and sheath were also supplied with mine.

Some scrap stropping leather pieces also from HandAmerica free for the asking. To make your own small strop as space permits.

Some stropping compound either from HandAmerican (more choices) or the green stuff that comes in a stick from Lee Valley. You can break the stick into pieces and a little goes a long way.

If you have the room, a mousepad along with some PSA sandpaper cut to size.

YMMV

How about an abrasive tool (diamond coated rod or flat steel) and a ceramic rod:)

I also like the sandpaper idea. It can also be used on top of a thick piece of leather or other surfaces with a little give. Just grind away and finish with the some ceramic, leather, or your Carharts;)

Thanks for the suggestions. It would be nice of EZ-lap made it's M model with a steel handle option instead of just aluminum or brass. That would be an ideal system, especially if they offered finer diamond grits.
Has anyone ever brought this to their attention?

Good thought Ian. How about the ezelap credit card diamond hones? They come in 3 or 4 grades, coarse to fine or superfine. I'm figuring space is at a premium and you can't get much more compact than some ezelap hones and a good steel.
