This is a newbie knife question, but know this is the place to go with it; so bear with me. I just got a CRKT (small Crawford-Kasper,1/2 serrated) & want to keep it sharp. What knife sharpening kit should I get? Not looking to spend too much ($30-50 range). Also want to keep my kitchen knives sharp (steak knives, cleaver, etc..). Thanks.

Sounds like you need the Spyderco Sharpmaker. it's about 40-50 bucks, and it is designed to handle everything from fishooks to meat cleavers. I've done a fair amount of research on it here, and people agree that for a good, basic system, you can't go wrong with it for the money. The best thing about it is that it even comes with an instructional video!!! That alone sells it to me right there! To top it off, its small enough to be taken anywhere, and it fits into its own plastic case!

I'm gonna get one soon. Please post your review of it if you get one before I do.

Thanks!

You'll hear by overwhelming majority for the sharpmaker.

Go with the Sharpmaker, you won't regret it. As long as you don't let your knives get overly dull you will have no problems keeping them as sharp as you want.

I agree. The Sharpmaker will do the most for the least amount of $$. It's only downfall has been when major re-profiling is required, and even that has now been solved with the addition of the (optional) diamond coated rods.

Wow I was about to axe the same question...thanks guys :) How many variants of the sharpmaker are there?

Spyderco Sharpmaker 204.

EASY to use system that comes with instructional video AND book. Once you get the hang of it, you'll know why the majority of KnifeKnuts prefer this system.

IT IS THE BEST!! :D ;) :D
