Hi All,

Just got my Battle Mistress & Mean Street, I honestly did my research on the forum & found plenty of information about sharpening BM's. BTW I am sortta confused with terminology, is it "Busse Grind", dual convex grind or just assymetrical grind or all of them are synonymus?
About mean street I've had much less of a luck, the only thing I have found was this thread:<A HREF="http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum39/HTML/000130.html">http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum39/HTML/000130.html</A>.
I understand I can send my knife to Jerry, that's cool & very nice of them to resharpen it for free, or even for beer

However I would prefer to sharpen my blades myself.

Andy - Answering that question in the link above, I have more or less good set of sharpening instruments, that includes Edge Pro Apex, DMT dual benchstones from coarse tu extra fine, Spyderco 204, few steels, such as diamond, ceramics & smoth ones. Phew

So,
a) Does the Mean Street have the same asymetrical grind? if yes I assume I should use the same techniques well described by Cliff, right? The reason I am asking this is that on BM it's visible very well, I mean asymetrical grind, but on Mean Street I couldn't tell

b) if Mean Street has plain V grind, at what angle should I resharpen it when the time comes?

c) Any help is highly appreciated

Hi Gator...

Your Mean Street has the same edge grind...just harder too see because it is smaller....if you look down the knife edge toward the ceiling from tip to guard, you should see it.

The way I sharpen the Mean Street is to use a trailing motion from the bottom of a sharpening jig with a ceramic stick...if you have the Spyderco, use the edge of the triangular stone. Stroke the LEFT SIDE ONLY, up the stick, from Bottom to Top, using a stropping or "trailing" motion.

When the knife begins to lose its hair popping sharpness, just use a few strokes, bottom to top, on the stick. Then, go to charged leather and strop BOTH sides...this will bring the knife back to original sharpness. I have even rubbed Flitz metal polish into my leather and got terrific results.

If you have any problems, just drop a note here.

We could all just show up at Andy's house for a sharpening party....

Now what to wear?

I second the flitz idea. I almost think it works better than my honing compound, and you dont have a waxy mess on the edge when your through. Later, Jeff

Hi Andy,

I guess only after having those blades I really understand what that "Nuclear Tough" means
