Today I received a spyderco gayle bradley in the mail. The f&f was top notch but to my dismay, the bevel wasn't even, the tip wasn't pointy, and the inclusive edge angle was on the thicker side. I've always had trouble getting really keen edges on folding knives, but I finally managed to pull it off while thinning the bevel and making it relatively even. The only issue is that the very heel of the blade isn't as sharp as the rest of the knife being that since there is no sharpening choil, removing steel in that section is a bit tough for me. Nonetheless, I rarely use that portion of the knife at all and to have a sharp (sharper than what I usually do) folding knife that I reprofiled all by myself is an achievement for me!

I have some 1 micron diamond spray coming from CKTG and I'm hoping it will give me a crisper sharper edge! That aside the gayle bradley is pretty awesome. Thanks to certain members in the MT&E who answer and help my many sharpening concerns and questions.

That video was very informative and helpful. I think I have a small diamond file somewhere and I might add a really small choil. Thanks!

Is a good feeling when you can ID any issues and proceed through correcting and sharpening, ending up with better then the factory effort.

I added a really small choil, but I don't really feel like doing a whole another sharpening session to remove the metal in the heel area especially when I don't exactly know what to do lol. How will I go about just removing metal around the heel now that I have a small choil which should make doing so a lot easier?

When I have time I really want to perfect this edge, but I want to make sure I know how first.

Very cool! That's something to be proud of :)

You can just keep light pressure in the choil area as you sharpen the heel in small strokes. Be sure to take some full strokes across the edge

So I should just very lightly remove metal in that choil area until its relatively even with the rest of the bevel, then do full strokes heel to tip?
