Hello Everyone! I would like to make this post short and simple. How do you sharpen an Emerson Mini-Commander(with "conventional V-grind") on a Spyderco Sharpmaker? Thank you. I am not new to knives or sharpening but I just cant seem to get this knife sharp, only more dull. No strop available.

Use the sharpmaker as you would with any other knife to get a burr formed on the "back" side
of the blade. Then use the finest stone you have to knock it off. Try and keep as close
to the blade as you can when "de-burring" the back side so you dont start to form another bevel.
You may have to do this a few times to get a good edge if your not used to dealing with EKI edges.

As to strops you can use all sorts of stuff for that, cardboard, glossie magazines, soft
woods like pine/spruce/larch, a regular leather belt .........etc. etc.

:)

imho the commanders are not a "conventioanl v grind", at least not one like say a spyderco endura or a spyderco ATR.

i dont like to use sharpmakers on any EKI myself though some do and they will work, the angles just arent right.

i prefer to follow the instructions on www.emersonknives.com and use a norton india stone and the back of a phonebook to remove the burr.

different folks do it different ways but it doesnt matter how ya do it if the end result is a sharp knife............

however ya do it EKI's do take a little getting used to to get 'em really sharp and it takes some practice to get the right technique down, once ya do EKI's are imho easier to sharpen than most, but understanding how to do that is hard for some folks to catch onto.
