What is the best way to sharpen odd things, like electric hair clipper blades, or cheese graters, and other small blades in cramped spaces?

And which type of sharpener will last the longest? Ceramic, diamond ... ?

Some things I'm guessing may be useful are:

Sure...Throw them out! Seriously. If you have dulled a cheese grater it was a piece of garbage and isnt worth the time to sharpen it. Not sure on the hair clippers, perhaps the flat side can be honed a bit to revitalize it.

Diamond hones are surface treated whereas ceramic is a solid material. The ceramic hone will likely still be around long after diamonds would have worn out. However, don't let that deter you from choosing either as their sharpening characteristics are vastly different. With that said, I generally don't use either, generally preferring a water stone or abrasive sheeting and maybe a loaded strop.

The grater is 15 years old and has been used on hard carrots for years, so no, I won't "throw it out".
