Hey guys and gals hope everyone is enjoying this beauty full weekend .So im sitting in my house this weekend playing with a new sharpening gadget I bought for the hell of it on clearances at wally world. A little 2 stone guided system with the clamp and the stones fixed on rods .Just to make sharpening my v edge work knives Easyer.I can use a whetstone just fine but this I can do while watching my fav show. And wow I was really surprised at the results very sharp
without much effort or skill I can just blindly do it while relaxing. So then I started thinking I wish my convex edges were easyer to sharpen I'm pretty sick of messing around with sand paper and running out of it plus I don't see sand paper as a viable option for a long term hikeing trip like a few weeks or so. So I did some research and found falknivens technique for doing convex edges like an axe and I tried it with a pocket size Arkansas stone on my Brkt nnlittle creek.Wow way sharper and easyer in my opinion than it ever was for me with paper.Has anyone tried this with their convex edges any what were your thoughts and results. So all in all it was a good weekend for me I for two new sharpening methods that yielded better results than I've been getting with less effort.

Nice Shawn. Convex edges are a must on Samauri swords, machetes, and axes/hatchets. Without it the edges would wedge in the medium like flat grinds do. Of course it makes the strongest edges to, much less prone to chipping and breaking. I like how they work on a lot of things but it will have more drag through things than a crisp flat angle. I think Murray Carter makes a compromise that is the best of both worlds, but still only a compromise. Interesting, a Sushi knife is flat ground on one side and chisel on the other. The flat cuts with minimal resistance and the chisel side pushes the slices away. Carter lays the blade flat on his water stones and grinds away until it's to the edge then he does this slight raise of the back as he gradually arches the grind to the edge. Send us the link if you can.
