Well after a few days of intense stone work I finally found my technique on getting my Spyderco Manix 2 ultra-sharp! It was suppose to be the Manix with the 154CM blade but they sent me one with the S30V steel blade and that ok by me! Im pretty good at sharpening knives or at least I thought I was until I tried S30V steel. It was kinda hard there for a day or two until I found the right stone and technique. Now I can get it crazy sharp! With one stroke it will shave more hair than a "BIC" razor. I sold my Buck Vantage Pro with the S30V blade because I couldn't figure out how to get it sharp. My trick was getting a DMT Duo-Sharp Plus with extra fine/fine. It absolutely does the trick. I purchased one after reading what one of you said about "diamonds being a mans best friend" as far as knife blades go, and he was right! I didn't think I'd ever get it sharp. Now im good to go!

For me, I use the medium stones on the sharpmaker, then a few strokes on the fine stones to finish up. It leaves it with a slightly toothy, but excellent cutting edge.

I have a Sharpmaker as well. My trick is to not let it get too dull, because I don't think I could re-profile any S30v blade without the diamond rods. In fact, I usually maintain it just by stropping.

Yeah, the diamond rods on the Sharp Makerare a must if you want to reprofile, or if you have a god-awful dull blade. The Sharpmaker medium rods are great for touching a blade up or sharpening one that still has SOME edge. But you will be at it FOREVER if you try to use them to reprofile.
