Sharpening my CQC-15?

I have an Emerson CQC-15 and was wondering if there was any way to sharpen it using the Spyrderco Sharpmaker? Would I have to get rid of the shoulder on the blade? Do I need to reprofile it to a true V Grind?
Though it showed up pretty sharp, that is no longer the case and I've never sharpened a blade like this in either shape (recurve-tanto) or edge type. Any tips would be greatly appreciated....

The tanto tip can just be sharpened like any other flat edge, the recurve part will need a round or oval stone/rod.
You can use the edge (corner) of the rods on the sharpmaker to do the recurve part though.

For EKI edges just push a burr over to the back side a knock it off using a fine ceramic then just strop it as you would any other knife.
You don't want to start forming a bevel on the back side so just do it gently.

:)

My problem is that if I hold the perpindicular to the table like I'm supposed to with the Sharpmaker that the ceramic rod does not come in contact with the edge of the blade but rather contacts the shoulder of the blade. Should I just hold the knife at a different angle to make contact with just the edge of the blade or to make contact with the entire bevel?

You want to match the bevel angle of the original edge or you're just going to start to rebevel the edge and not actually sharpen it.
The stone or rod needs to contact the entire edge bevel or you're going to be forming a secondary bevel at the edge or as you say hitting the shoulder.

Have a look here as it will probably be of some help

imho sharpening EKI's with a sharpmaker is going the long way around the barn, the angles just arent right, imho its a lot easier to just use a flat bench stone and be done with it.

i suppose ya could put the stones flat on the SM but a 8" stone is still easier, and an 8" norton india stone is like $20.
