I bought a Laguoile R David. Out of the box the edge sharp, but not shawing sharp. I proceeded to strop the edge and managed to make it duller. I quess I was using too much pressure or the angle was wrong. I used a Lansky crock stick mini that usually has been great on touching up blades to get it sharp again but this time failed miserably. Quess the edge needs to be reprofiled.

The blade is quite narrow, the geometry is such that the edge can be challenging to get in to shawing sharpness. Any ideas?

Just start at the beginning. Edges of new knives often have problems due to powers sharpening at the factory. This is what I do (bassed on Cliff Stamp methode):
- Take a coarse stone and lightly cut in to it at 90degrees to remove the old edge. I should now reflect light.
- Hone both sides at the angle you want (below 15dps) until you can no longer see light reflecting of the edge. Then a few more strokes constantly changing sides.
- A few de-burring strokes at high angel. Check with you nail.
- A few more alternate strokes at the angle you used before. Now you should have a sharp coarse edge.
- If you want a finer finnish continue with finer hones.

Thank you. Should I first hone along the flat, to reprofile the whole blade?

No! Do not lay the blade on the stone and sharpen.

You will use a shallow angle on the stone to sharpen but will not lay it flat. You could stack two coins and use as a angle guide to get you started.
