Got a friend who asked me to sharpen a ceramic knife. Anyone with experience on these? There are no chips its just dull. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

do you have a dremel tool? i used a superfine diamond disk and it sharpened it back up pretty decent. it was dull as a butter knife and you could run your finger along the edge and not get cut. i would not want to try that now. pm me your addy and i'll mail you a disk to try. i think i have 1 to spare.

Hi Richard, yeah I have a dremel. Thanks for your generous offer, if I go that route I can pick one up local. How bout the 800/1000 stones on my wicked edge? Think they would work if I used light pressure? If I dont find any WE info I'll call them on monday. Cheers, my friend.

you might try it but i'm not sure. the disks i use feel like there is nothing on them but they will shrpen up a ceramic blade.
it did take me a long time to get it where it is today.

i bet if i work on the edge a little more it will get even sharper.

Any diamond abrasive will sharpen it up, but be prepared to spend some time on it unless you use a powered sharpener. I use an aluminum lap wheel with diamond lapping slurry to sharpen ceramic knives, same way Kyocera does it at the factory where they're made. They will tree-top when done.

Hey man, where could I find these dremel diamond discs?

i had a friend that worked at the factory that made them. they are for dentists to use. i had bunch of them but over the years i have used them up and my supply is low. i wish i had a source to get more of them.

Does anyone have some real experience with WSKTS sharpeners? How long the diamond belt lasts - I mean how many ceramic knife I can sharpen with it?

Could you please post a video of you sharpening with the dremel @ Richard J

I am very terrified of using a dremel to sharpen, I have seen those things DESTROY edges and a ceramic is fragile to pressure and what not
I would like to see your technique because I cannot get it right

You guys do realize the last time Richard posted to this thread is 2011?

I can try to reach him through FB but I wouldn't hold out much hope for help as he hasn't posted in 2 1/2 years.

Thanks
Taking up ceramic blade study has been on my mind the last couple months. Just got a Zirconium bladed knife a few days ago. To fool around. The ceramic blades have challenged me and kicked my butt so far so I am looking forward to a rematch armed with the paper wheels. So I was over ripe to talk about it.
Oh well.
