I'm trying to sharpen my Emerson on the spyderco sharpmaker, is there anyone who uses this system and is successful sharpening your chisel friend? If so. Please help and give tips!

Use the 'Sharpie' trick, Jordan. Cover the blade edge with a sharpie and take a few strokes on the Sharpmaker. Examine the edge to see if the Sharpie ink was removed from the shoulder of the bevel or the very edge of the blade. If it is from the shoulder, you have some work ahead of you, as you will be re-profiling the edge. All you really need to do is form a burr on the flat side of the edge and then remove it on the back of a legal pad or something similar. You may even want to set the stones in the Sharpmaker to allow you to free-hand sharpen using the flats.

I put the sharp maker in the 30 degree slots. Hold the flat side of the blade flush with the stone, transfer to the other stone keeping that angle. I achieve hair shaving results everytime using this method. I have had a old cqc 7 which has become a little convex because the angle changes a little during the transition, but it still gets hair shaving sharp everytime I get done on the sharpmaker, still....

I've been using the Sharpmaker for a few years now, and I LOVE it. It may not be the most advanced or quickest, but I find it reliable, easy to use, flexible, and rather economical. If you're reprofiling AT ALL, though, patience will definitely be a virtue (as alluded to by A.P.F.), and I HIGHLY recommend using the diamond rods. Like A.P.F. pointed out, know what you're actually doing to the blade and where you're doing it. With the basic technique presented in the CD, you'll eventually and inevitably create a "V" with a fine edge. I have learned that some knives need a lot of reprofiling (e.g., Boker and Ka-Bar) whereas other need very little if any (e.g., Kershaw and ESEE). One last thing: don't be afraid to try the 40 degree angle, you can still get hair-shaving sharp, and it's stronger.

Do the Sharpie trick. With my A100, I used the 40 degree slots and still had to reprofile. Wrap some sand paper around the rods to speed up the process.

I use the 40 deegree and in a matter minutes my 8 is razor sharp. My 7 is giving me a little grief, I think because the grinds are thicker closer to the edge.

you just haft to tilt the blade a little bit google emerson on sharpmaker someone made a photo demonstration on how to sharpen on the sharpmaker , if all else fails click on my sig line he charges a dollar per inch of knife and hes the best at sharpening, and turn around time.
