Guys, probably a boring question for you - I'll do a search, too -, but what are you using for field-sharpening your Busses?
Probably I'm going to some remote tropical areas in january, and I want some sharpening device what I can bring with me (must be relatively small)...
Thanks, Peter

A while back one of my ceramic sharpmaker rods broke. I have one of the pieces in a pouch on my sheath. I would think that plus a leather belt would be all you need in the field.

I think that a DMT diafold would be all that you would need for field sharpening. They even sell a two sided model so that you can have a coarse grit and a finer grit.

Or the Eze-Lap diamond dusted rod that stores in its' own handle.

These seem to be hard to find at the store, but easy online or ebay.

+1 on the foldable diamond hones.

It is hard to beat the foldable DMT or EZE-LAP double-sided diamond hones. The coarse side cuts pretty fast to get out the larger nicks and dents and the finer side is good for general touch ups. You won't get the super polished edges with these things but they will put on nice servicable edges and are very compact.

It might also be a good idea to pack a small piece of leather loaded with some stropping compound and similar sized strips of sandpaper. They take up very little room and don't weight much.

Man, I have to try the foldable diamond hones. But I have always used either some sandpaper that I just put on my leg and strop the knife with. Or something like a ceramic rod.
