Sharpening on the go.

After I finished my first few knives I decided I had to stop looking at them and sharpen them at some point. That wasn't good for me because my first attempts at sharpening were horrible. I came to that conclusion before I did any real damage and I stopped trying to sharpen until I had a better strategy for myself.

I looked at the options and decided on a guided system. Here are mine. They work like a dream. I think that eventually I will cut the initial bevel on the grinder and finish with these, but for now I am all manual.

Neat! I'm the same way, can't sharpen a thing by hand yet. How much did this set up cost if you don't mind me asking? Also, what brand is it?

Wandering,

Thank you for the compliment - I made this pair, mostly with materials in my shop. I bought the stones online for about $45, the ball joints are are about $10 apiece. The ipe deck is priceless:). I had the pelican box, so I decided to dress it up as a set. I made three versions before I knew what worked really well, but - now they do.

Erik,
Those look really nice!! The whole package turned out great. I like the idea of the hard case, everything with a place, nice and organized. Good job. Next you'll have to post some pics of the edges you produce with those two!
