Sharpening out chips in the edge?

I recently dropped my new Spyderco Szabo and was extremely unhappy when I found out it chipped or tore out (don't know which is a better description). It goes maybe 1/32" in to the edge, but it's still very noticeable. Sorry I don't have a camera that can take an adequate picture. I have an Edge Pro with an assortment of stones, but it doesn't seem like I've made any progress.

Is there any chance I'll be able to fix it myself with normal sharpening, or should I just cut my losses and send it to a professional who is capable of completely re-grinding the edge?

In the meantime, I'll keep trying with the EP and see where that gets me. Thanks for your help!

Well it should be an easy fix, I would suggest using a more obtuse angle first on the EP and take down that steel with the rough grit until you can't see the chip, then switch to your normal angle, getting the chip out is what's important and it won't take much steel off the blade to do, you'll be able to get the blade back by simply making your angle more acute again and reprofiling it.

You could always just leave it there.

Provided the chip is small enough, If you get the entire edge sharp, save for that tiny 1/32" dent, then the knife will still cut perfectly well. Then, as you sharpen the knife normally, the dent will eventually sharpen out over time.
