Ok, I broke down and traded away til I got a nice but used Basic 5. It's in good shape, but the edge is rolled over to the right. I tried the strop techniques shown on the website, but that didn't cut it. Can I use my Sharpmaker on this?

Thanks,

Mike

PS .. You guys were right, these are worth the money.

If you have a significant roll/dent, that which you can see for example, even the more aggressive stropping compounds are not going to take it off readily, unless you use power equipment.

The easiest way to handle the convex side if it needs a decent amount of metal removal is to align it with a steel and polish with sandpaper. You want a high quality grade, cheap AO is not going to do much, buy a SiC or Diamond dusted sandpaper, Mylar backed abrasives work even better.

Lee Valley sells mylar backed SiC sandpaper in 1000 and 2500 grit, and 9000 grit CrO for an ultra fine finish.
