sharpening question for the forum

Does anyone sharpen their khukri freehand w benchstones? I was doing sandpaper and stropping for a long time for many of my knives. Lately I've been going back to basics and started using stones again. So far I like the results. Anyone else use stones?
 
it's not uncommon for me to use stones from the tip to the where belly just becomes a little to curved to get the flat of the stone in there.

I rather like stones to hog off the softer metal of the first sharpening. Then i move on to strops. After several hours I'm left with a convex edge that shaves the total length.
