I'm the proud new owner of a Strider BT. The point is, as you all know, very pointy. The edge of the blade is sharp, but not razor sharp and, since I lack experience, I'm not sure whether or not one would want it razor sharp. I'm able to achieve an extraordinarily sharp edge using my sharpening device so I was wondering if a great knife would be better with a very, very sharp edge or is there a reason to keep it as is (which is sharp - just not extremely sharp)? I hope that I don't sound like an idiot.

Are you a chopper or slicer? Depends on what you want to use it for. Think whether or not you want to shave with it or split 2x4s. If it is going to do everything, give that razor sharp bite.

The front edge was not sharpened to a razor for a reason. It is designed to allow more impact type tasks than the primary cutting edge. Rarely is it used as a "scalpel type" instrument, so it is better to have a tougher edge up there.
