Just got my VTAC, and its bombproof. Only problem is that it really wasn't as sharp as I expected. What have y'all found to be the best method for getting all the different edges sharp. I currently have a DMT folding diamond sharpener but its tough to use on the smaller edges. What do you suggest?

The edge grind and edge sharpening on our new LaGana VTAC is "working" quality. In most cases, the customer has a shaving sharp knife for the fine work to go with their Hawk. As we have begun manufacturing the VTAC in considerably large runs by contract as a breaching tool, the edge grind is more suited for enduring extremely abusive chores without deformation...windows, doors, locks, dry-wall, etc..

If you strop your VTAC edge on charged leather, it will pull hair...we just don't finish the edges to that level of sharpeness any longer because we learned very quickly that it was unnecessary for military applications. We set the edge up however for those customers who do appreciate a shaving sharp edge and the desired sharpness in those instances can be achieved with little effort by hand.

Hope this helps.

PS...

Randall Knives for example, has used the "working edge" sharpening policy for years. While we sharpen our Rogers' Rangers and Next Gen models to shaving sharpness from the box, our VTAC is the workhorse that sees the most action all over the world. Consequently, the working edge is "real-world" for the duties that the VTAC is called upon to perform.

I would only reiterate that it can indeed be brought to "shaving sharp" should the owner wish to do so, and with relatively little effort.

...good to see you here Geoff.

Actually, I was just in your neck of the woods and may be back soon...get with me offline and we'll try to set something up next time I'm in your area.
