I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Is the 30 or 40 degree angle better for sharpening? I want to keep the S30V touched up.

S30V is very strong and will hold its edge well. Definately do 30 degrees. 30 degrees is also probably closer to the angle already set on your knife's bevel.

If it's a factory edge use 40 or 20 per side, otherwise you'll spend 17 days reprofiling the blade at 15 per side.

I follow the CRK website instructions:

What is the best way to keep my Chris Reeve Knife sharp?

One important thing to remember with any knife is to maintain the edge - it is better to keep it reasonably sharp rather than let it get completely dull and then try to get the edge back. To maintain an optimal cutting edge on a Chris Reeve knife, we recommend the use of the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker or a Lansky Sharpener. If you prefer to use a stone, the angle at which to sharpen will be best achieved at 18 - 20 degrees.

In other words, use the 40 degree setting on the Sharpmaker. I also like to use a 30 degree back bevel from time to time, which reproduces some of the effect of the original convex edge.

But if you prefer to reprofile to 30 degrees, go right ahead. It couldn't hurt, especially if you aren't using your blade on seriously rough materials.
