ok Im sure this a newb question, but I have to ask it anyway. when sharpening youre knives you cant just work one part of the blade can you? here is my issue. I have my knife and it is super sharp from the handle to about halfway. at the tip is is not as sharp and it has a small chip taken out of the blade, can I just work that area or am I risking getting the knife uneven?

you can work that part of the blade, the tip is the most used part of a knife
just don't go overboard and it should be fine

Sure you can. Think of it like sanding a board that has a defect at one end. You sand out the defect as best you can, and feather back to the higher surface. You don't necessarily have to take the entire board all the way down to below the surface of the defect. Of course you also might choose not to take the entire defect out - to split the difference.
