I have been able too get a shaving sharp edge on Spyderco's s30v in a bout 5 minutes on the croc sticks, and less than that for steels like aus 8, 154 and sandvic.

Now that I have conquered the croc sticks I want to up grade to a sharpmaker, and bench stones for large fixed blades.

Can somebody post a pic of everything that comes with the sharp maker?

How long does it take you to get it shaving sharp on a d2, s30v, vg-10, 1095, and 154cm.

Is the abs of the system hold up well? It won't break if I drop it, from 6 feet maybe?

Are you happy with it? What would you change?

The time it takes to get a knife sharp depends on how dull it is in the first place.

The sharp-maker will come with 2 sets of rods one set medium (brown) the other fine (white) and 2 brass safety rods and a nice base/storage case and a 15min DVD on how to use and its features.

VG-10 takes me about 2 min ~30 pulls
D2 takes me about 5 ~50 pulls (I use both grits for consistency)
154 takes no more that D2 (but mine are Emersons-not the easiest to sharpen on a sharp maker
S30V takes me 2-10min ~30-120pulls depending on what grit and how dull and the edge bevel (BM930 2 min, Strider 10min, however it has a much larger edge bevel)

It depends on the steel of the blade and how dull it is. I have had 440c blades that are as dull as Al Gore, and still managed to sharpen them in a Sharpmaker in a couple of minutes.

Once you buy the diamond rods and ultra fine rods for the Sharpmaker, you've spent around $25 less than the cost of the base model Edge Pro Apex.

Spend a little more and get the Edge Pro.

Try the edge pro apex it is a little more difficult to use then the sharp maker. Both are good systems hope this helps
