Ok, I am quite green at the knife sharpening thing. I have two Smith stones, one dark brown and one smaller white one. One of them is an Arkansas stone, I do know that. I am hoping to get the spyderco sharpening system for xmas but until then I have been doing the best I can with what I got. Here is my routine, maybe someone can point out why I am not getting my knives as sharp as I like. I would like to get them factory sharp, maybe that is my first problem- is that even possible?

So after a few days of use, usually not very many- I use the white stone and run the knife away from myself about 10 times in a diagonal motion with around a 20-30degree angle. I then turn the stone around to keep the shavings moving in the same direction and run the knife toward myself 10x. repeat until the blade seems sharp. Is this ok? I dont use the brown stone unless the blade is really dull- is that right? I get the blades sharp enough to cut anything I would need to cut but I wish I could get it razor sharp. Do I need to get diamond stones for better sharpness? Any critique would be greatly appreciated- I know it is hard to say without actually watching but I just need to know if I am at least in the ballpark. Thanks!
