I am new to this forum and I have a bit of a dilema. I have a benchmade 710 with the M2HS. It has seen its share of utility work and NEEDS to be sharpened. I dont want to send it to benchmade to do the sharpening because I have lost a knife in the mail like that before (lucky I sent it insured) and because thier factory edges come out sub par (I also want to change the blade angles). I dont know how to sharpen knives nor do I have the equipment to do so. Basically, I need to find a small knife shop or someone who knows what they are doing. I live in the DC area and am looking for someone to do this kind of work. Any inputs whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sharpen a mans knife and he'll cut all day, teach a man to sharpen and he'll scare the hair off of everyones arms for the rest of his life.

Good luck finding someone in DC to help you out, and welcome to the forums, my best advice is to learn how to sharpen for yourself, there's plenty of info out there all it takes is practice, and it's even therapeutic, kinda like a Xanax.

Welcome chuhka! I would start researching good, quality sharpeners. Most folks round here favor the Edge Pro ($125) or the Spyderco Sharpmaker ($40). The edge pro would be best for reprofiling, and the Spydie is great for quick touch ups provided the angles match your knife's angles.

Maybe send your knife to Ben Dale at edge pro to see how it comes out on the edge pro? Just send it insured of course.
