So friday on my way up to my fiancee's doctors appointment for the baby, I dropped by this knife shop to have my Benchmade Mini Grip sharpened. I took it to the guy, a few moments later he brings be back my knife, and I pay him the two dollars for his services. I didn't check my knife till I got into the doctors office. Looking as dumb possible,I attempted to shave my arm.. Nothing.. I then attempted to slice into my arm.. Nothing. Tried stabbing my leg.. Nothing. That is a bit overkill. I mean he made this thing a sorry piece of useless pocket jewelry. I am going to contact this guy tomorrow because I have been in the hospital with the delivery of my daughter. That's right! NEW PROUD FATHER OF A LITTLE GIRL :) :) But this shop is in Flintstone, Ga whose name is very similar to a colored horse.. I mean I went from my Buck 110 to this Benchmade and I have loved this damned knife and now he has touched it and ruined it.. My fault for not checking the edge before I drove off. I am soooo pissed at myself and pissed that my first purge on a BM, even cheap, is ruined... God bless 'Merica....

Let me first say, Congratulations!. Send it to Jdavis886, or CrimsonTideShooter (same guy) He'll give you a wicked edge.

First, and foremost, CONGRATS on the new girl! Now you have a reason for a new shotgun as well! ;) As for the piss poor sharpening job, I would get in touch with one of the fine gents on BFC, they should be able to do a regrind and have it back to you sharper than when you unboxed it! As for the sharpening ability of some of the self-proclaimed experts...

Thanks! I sent a Westmark to Richard J, but I screwed up the return address so it's sitting in Ohio awaiting some stamps to be sent up there. I hear he has some wicked sharpening skills. I am getting so anxious to cut with it. I'll be damned if I am not going to go back down to the "shop" and not get it resharpened right.. I have been using my Buck 110 and my Buck 113 this weekend... 'sighhhhhh'...

Thank you! I have my woods beater Mossberg 500 :) Guys ain't getting close unless they submit an application haha joking but I'm going to return to the shop and see what the hell happened.

Might want to just get your money back instead of having him hack at it again. That's what I'd do anyway.

Congrats on the little one. :) I too had a baby girl less than a month ago.

This is a good experience for you. Use it to learn how to sharpen your own knife. It's a simple skill that needs only simple, inexpensive equipment. Rather than rant about someone else's shortcomings, invest in yourself. Then pass on this wisdom to your beautiful new girl. She deserves a good start in life.

See I know how to sharpen knives, but there's a few I don't want to touch. My bucks and field knifes are all sharp as all get out. My Westmark had a very rolled and dulled tip and I couldn't straighten it out. My Benchmade, well, I didn't want to take a chance with it but the edge was off centered when I opened the box. Almost like a chisel grind, so tonight, after feeding the baby, I am going to go and love on my oil stones and my Mini Grip.. Gosh.

This!

Also, BM will sharpen for life of you send it in.

Congrats on your Daughter!

I wouldn't bother having them resharpen your knife (or any other knife). I wouldn't even expect your two bucks back, but I would tell them.

Two dollars is a cheap lesson about the shop, trust me. I have had much more expensive lessons with mechanics and others

I sharpen all my knives. Except my Benchmade 556.. I couldn't straighten my Westmark Hunter out to be took care of by Richard J. I took my 556 to the shop so it could be professional touched up.. Wrong mistake. Lesson learned.

First and last time I (as a teenager) dropped off a valuable partially-serrated knife to be "sharpened" at a shack off the main road occupied by a grizzled Vietnam veteran, with the specific and explicit instructions to not damage the knife or even to sharpen it if he was unable to do so, I got the knife back--moderately sharp, and minus the serrations. Somehow I managed to squeeze out: "Sir, I appreciate your service to this country, but I don't appreciate you ruining my knife." (paraphrased)

I must be lucky. I sharpen my own, but take the big ones to the local barber supply. His son is crazy good at sharpening. Plus I get a mirror edge! I take a Monster or a Redbull with me (for payment) and I am out the door in 10 minutes or so. :)

$2 to sharpen a knife should have been enough to raise red flags all around. Sorry to hear of your experience, but with the birth of your daughter, it should more than make up for a bad sharpening job. The blade was not ruined was it? Just duller than the guy who "sharpened" it I hope. Next time take it to a Bass Pro shop, as they have paper wheel sharpeners in their knife department. Haven't ever used them, (the Bass pro guys) just know that is what they have in the Atlanta area.
Any way, congrats on the little one, and hope you get your blade straightened out.

If you have problems with doing it yourself, and you find yourself in the Knoxville, TN area I can sharpen it no charge.

Is it 154CM? BM 154 is a great steel and easy to sharpen. Read a little, practice a little more, then never have to depend on anyone to take care of it again. If you can't learn to sharpen a small knife with good steel, then perhaps you should collect ceramic unicorns instead.
