Any pull through knife sharpeners that are sufficient for pocket knives (case, Buck GEC)? Feel I am not getting a good edge with a stone and screwing up my blades. Good thing only been practicing on one but got a lot of maintenance to do. Thanks

Or maybe that $35 worksharp guided field sharpener? Maybe the angles would help get that edge.

Some are better than others, you could probably find info on youtube or doing a bit of internet searching.

Long story short, they tend to remove a lot of material(which will reduce the life of your blade) and you end up with a jagged edge that is only passing sharp and won't stay sharp for very long.

They are generally cheap though.

Hopefully someone here can give you some recommendations but I wouldn't touch one with a 10' pole. I would go for a cheap guided system like a Lansky or Work Sharp if you didn't want to learn freehand; at least you will be able to get properly sharp knives.

Pull through sharpeners are the absolute worst. If you are not getting desired results with a stone there are several entry level sharpeners around the hundred dollar mark.
Spyderco Sharpmaker
Work sharp precision adjustable
Worksharp MK2
Lansky adjustable

I remain barely adequate at freehand sharpening, and find the Work sharp precision adjustable sharpener very useful for cleaning up my almost edges - more so than the sharpmaker, but YMMV

Some good recommendations above. Don't use a pull through unless you want to end up with a serrated blade over time:eek:
