Sharpening recurves, wavy, etc. Stone or ?

Just wondering. I love my CRKT M21 SF, and other knives which certainly are not what I think of as straight edged. Question: Would I be able to sharpen them on stones or would I need rods like the Spydie Sharpmaker?

You could use stones, but I think your results would be less than ideal. The problems you are likely to run into with a curvy blade and a stone are:
1. Difficulty to get to some areas of the edge
2. Loosing some of the curvyness of the edge

If you are alright with these, then feel free to use stones. But if you want to sharpen with more ease and not alter the blades shape much then a rod type sharpener is the way to go. The main problem with the Sharpmaker is that it doesn't remove enough metal to reprofile a knife within a realistic amount of time. But people love it for touching up their edges.

Any suggestions for more aggressive rods? I was wondering if the diamond rods for the sharpmaker would be worth the money.

I just got an email from Neil Blackwood about touching up my skirmish which is a recurve and he advised ceramic rods.
Really nice of him to take time to answer my question too!
