Hi all:

I've been looking online for some 1500 grit paper in an effort to follow the convex edge sharpening tips shared by other forum folks. Most suppliers want to sell 50 sheets of each grit which is way more than I need. I came across an interesting site that offers what looks like just the ticket for sharpening Khukuris and other convex blades. It is a rubber backed micromesh that goes clear up to the equivalent of several thousand grit. It's $3.49 per sheet, but then it seems to me that you don't have to mess with a backing pad, AND the sheets can be washed out and reused.

Their explanation as to why this is a superior way to go makes sense to me. Check it out at:

Svashtar, looks like good stuff...
Compared to wet/dry paper, it is a little more expensive.
If you are still in search of paper, you'll want to check
an autobody supply store. 2 years ago I picked up 1500
and 2000 grit and it was only a buck or two a sheet (8.5x11).
I received the new Harbor Freight cat today & they have 4"
adhesive backed diamond? pads that go up to 10,000 grit (the
stuff used for polishing granite and marble).
Let us know how you make out.

I just head over to Home Depot up to 600 grit, and then to the Pep boys across the street to finish me off up to 2000 grit. ANy other auto place(Autozone, Oriellys, TrakAuto, etc) should have the same stuff. It'll be over by the paint and Bondo

If you check ebay and put "sandpaper" in the search block you will probably find just what you need.

I have an order presently enroute for 50 sheets of the 1000 grit wet or dry for a total cost of $15.48 that includes shipping.

Looks very interesting. It would probably work very well as a portable field sharpener-- more durable than regular sandpaper.
