Hi all.
Been playing around with sharpeners for a while and thought I would share what I have achieved with my Dads 882 which is now mine as he bought a 889.
It did get very dull.. would not scrape skin and when you attempted to cut a piece of paper it just ripped it and did not cut anything.
So here is what I did..
Used my Lansky Deluxe and made a edge using the 20 degree angle using course then medium stones.
After that I put a 25 bevel on the edge using the same stones. The edge became sharp but not razor sharp.
Then using a old belt which I screwed into a piece of wood stropped the blade. It was ok but not perfect. In the UK its really hard to get honing compound so I used standard metal polish called Brasso. I put some on the belt and then stropped away for a few mins each side.
All I can say is wow!
I was able to push cut the 10mm thick leather belt very very easily. Also I did the forearm test and it was shaving sharp. It also cut a single strand of hair that I held in my fingers. Damn thing is like a scalpel now.
I did the same thing to my 110FG and the only difference was that I used a small piece of cloth on the blade to stop the lansky clamp from scratching it.
Now to you guys this may not seem like a major breakthrough... but I considered myself to be SHARPENING CHALLENGED.
I have a set of Lansky Croc sticks and they are good for touch up work. But the 882 and the 110 is stupidly sharp now. With a nice polished edge that is smooth to touch but evil sharp
May be some help to someone
