I knew that sharping s110v would be tough, but wow that tough! Thought I had a good start to reprofiling my knife but I was very humbled by my over confidence, it looked good, was scary sharp for a short time but that was it. I'm using an edgepro but is seems that it is going to be a long, long process, using just the stones that came with the unit. Worked awesome on my other knives, it took them to a new level of sharpness. Any suggestions on what stones or techniques to use on harder steels?

Clean the stones if you haven't already to make sure their not clogged. And than I reccomend some good music and to get back to work that knife needs reprofiling. I let others comment more on this as I am no expert.

As for me I can't comment on S110V personally for reprofiling or sharpening, I own 2 Mule Team 18's with that steel but I am trying to dull down one of them before I reprofile it and so far it looks like I may be awhile till that happens.

It takes a lonnnngg time man. Check out the thread in this same folder about sharpening s30v. Goes into sharpening harder steels like S110v. Some good info in there that directly answer your questions.

The factory stones are garbage. Grab some Atoma plates for reprofiling the tough stuff. Then switch over to high quality stones such as shaptons.

Once you go so fine you will need to switch to either Diamond Films , or CBN/Diamond Strops

After my first attempt to sharpen s110v at two plus hours, than my second successfull sharpening at four plus hours with a one hour break, I will definitely look into some better stones for the high end steels. Is it wierd I want more s110v or s90v? I still like other steels like vg-10, zdp-189, and s30v. Wish I would have read the sharping s30v sharpening post sooner, there is a lot of great information in it.

CKTG has ATOMA plates for the EP. They also offer 2X6 DMT diamond plates mounted on EP blanks.:thumbup:
