Hello all,
recently acquired an S30V model Blur from a forum member, and I am having a really tough time putting a fine edge on it. It slices paper but not very well, does not shave and is not nearly as sharp as all my other knives. I am using a Sharpmaker on the 40 (20) degree setting.

Any suggestions? I also have an Edge Pro Apex but have not yet used it on a folder... so far I have gotten it barely sharper and it took me a lot of time (with the Sharpmaker).

Any input would be great.

I'm not all that good at sharpening, honestly lol. However, S30V is a premium steel, and from the reasearch I've done, it is very hard to effectively sharpen. It can be done though, and once it's done, the steel holds an edge for a very long time (usage dependant, of course). I'm sure one of the sharpening gurus will chime in here at some point. You might want to try posting this in the maintenance section though, as that area is more appropriate for this topic and you'll likely get much better responses.

Make sure you keep your ceramics clean, and take your time. Lighter strokes seem to work best, but once the rods load up, you won't get anywhere.

And I'll second Convert's suggestion to post this in the maintenance forum...

DEFINITELY!!! I have found that you MUST keep the ceramics clean, or else you will find yourself very frustrated! Do what the video tells you (Ajax with a scouring pad with water) and the rods will put the razor edge on!:thumbup:
