I have recently purchased my first blade in S35VN (ZT0450) and today got around the task to sharpen it on the spyderco sharpmaker before it gets too dull. While i didnt have much problem giving it a good sharp edge i noticed that while it shaved hair and push cut newspapers it just wasnt as sharp as my blades in s110v or elmax for exemple. I was wondering if that was just normal behavior for s35vn?

I can get a scary, hair-popping edge on my Sebbie 21 in S35Vn, using DMT diamond hones. I find it easier to sharpen than S30V, for whatever reason. I don't have any experience with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Could be that blade geometry makes a difference.

did you use a strop with stropping compound after?

i personally just use a strop after i use the knife rather than sharpening it once in a while.

I touch up my 0450CF on a Sharpmaker quite a bit. Can't comment on the level of sharpness with the s110V but I find the s35v to get crazy sharp with my Sharpmaker when touching it up.

I use a light stroke all the time but I really concentrate on a extremely light touch when finishing up. That and a very light bare strop is really all I use for this.

Well i figured that the person which i paid to reprofile my blade did a f**king terrible job at it. So i ordered diamond stones for my sharpmaker and ill do it myself...

I have a hair popping edge on my s35vn PM2

Using wicked edge
100-1000, 1200, 1600, then reduce angle by one degree and strop with balsa and 5/3 micron diamond paste

Oh and about 2 hours of my time

It's just a piece of material, subject to the results of grinding, like anything else.

You can get it as sharp as anything else if your abrasives, angles, and burr are all taken care of.

Hi,
You can also do everything right and still get weak or bad results, it happens :) keep trying

The "upgrade" from S30V to S35VN is the ease of sharpening S35VN while having basically the same steel characteristics assuming heat treat and all that are the same.

Very true, but for some reason , sharpening my s110v
Manix2 took forever.
