Hey guys.

How do I sharpen the saw on my Farmere once it gets dull?

This is a hypothetical question and I don't even know if I'll get to that stage. However I've been searching for answers and the easiest method seems to be laying the saw flat on a stone.

I have 2main questions regarding this method.

1. By "laying the saw flat on a stone" does this mean have the entire side of the saw on the stone?

2. Which way should I be going with the saw once it's on the stone? Edge leading or trailing? Or move the saw back and forth almost like you're trying to file the stone down with the saw?

Thanks for looking!

I've done it with a small triangular file. Some points to keep in mind...you will need to keep the angle of the file to the saw consistent, keep the file level in both directions, and take the same number of strokes on each tooth. If you are careful you will get a decent result. Rub the side of the saw flat on a fine stone to remove any burrs from filing. You may be able to find a saw filing jig to make the job easier, or if there's a local saw sharpening service with a mechanic who knows how to hand file saws it might be worth a few dollars to let a pro do it.

I bought an old Huntsman a few years back and took it to a local saw sharpening service. The saw was as good as new.
