Hey guys so I just got a SCHF9 but this thing is crazy dull out the box. I tried sharpening twice now but I'm getting no where on it. I'm using a flat combo coarse/fine stone. Any pointers?

Consistent angle, consistent pressure. Use a sharpie to black the edge, sharpen then look and make sure your angle is getting rid of the sharpie, rinse and repeat until you get a burr formed.

Once you get a burr along the entire length of the blade, it's time to get rid of the burr.

Post when you get there, take some time to read around, search this forum for 'burr', 'freehand sharpening', 'apex' and stropping.

Enjoy your adventure into sharpening, it's a deep dark hole.

I like your sharpie idea. I can sharpen all my other knives it's just the recurve edge on the SCHF9 that's really hard for me on the flat stone.
