benchmade says that life sharp does not cover serratted blade i was just wondering why not and how do manufactuers make serrated edges

Well your title was a little misleading but the main reason they don't cover the serrations is that they sharpen knives on a machine. This makes doing serrations quite difficult or at least time consuming. However if you are doing them on a sharpmaker it is even quicker to sharpen serrations.

I have a BM42S that SN7 sent back for Lifesharp service. BM just put the whole blade through the sharpener and pretty much flattened most of the serrations. They still work, but barely, and only using a rat-tail file and the serration hones from DMT was I able to get most of it back. Looks ugly regardless. Yes, it's not fair to limit the service, but just consider it good incentive to learn how to sharpen you own knives.
