What would you expect to pay or what do you charge to sharpen knives? Do you do contracts with discounts for businesses?

It depends on who does it,look over in the for sale section under services most posts have their prices listed.

From the research I did on "normal" sharpening, I've found a bit of a range of prices, but the middle ground is something like:

$3 for blades up to 4" long.
$5 for blades 5" or over.

Most places charge an extra dollar for fixing a broken tip, or removing an over hanging bolster.

Again this is for a standard type sharpening done with power tools. A hand sharpening is a whole other thing, especially if you are trying to tailor the finish to the blade with different types of water stones, etc.

It is not much at all.
A guy in the custom services offered section does a hell of a job with great feedback.
He has pricing listed as well. Check out his thread. I believe he is call wickededges,

$1.00 per inch for standard machine sharpening. I don't charge anything extra for tips, chips and bolsters unless its in real bad shape.

Hand sharpening is $2.00 per inch minimum.
