Knife Guys..

Sharpening Service - We could use a section on the site...

- Professional (charge for service)
- Amateur (shipping paid from knife owner)

I run out of knives to sharpen often.
The skill set requires frequent use to be excellent.

I have been sharpening for a long time, many of my friends have me sharpen their knives.
Buying knives just to have something to work on gets old and expensive.

Any thoughts on the topic would be appreciated...

Look here 👀

I would not think of my hobby as "customizing knives", for the most part putting the edge into better than new shape is my hobby.

- Removal of the factory grind edge to expose the "good steel"
- Sharpen at the factory edge angle most of the time
- Modify the edge angle to improve cutting performance

Simple basic sharpening with good equipment.

Thank you for commenting, I will check out the customizing area.

I like it. I think knife maker/service provider accounts can do this already. I didn't read the difference between gold and platinum accounts before I got one. Just went from a gaming aspect of platinums better. I don't want to spend the money on a service provider account to sharpen for fun. Might drop down to a gold account when I renew. Kinda figured I might get some to sharpen as I sell trade knives I put a mirror finish on. I'd do some amateur work to get more experience with certain steels and carbides I don't have.

My profile:
Amateur
Owner pays shipping both ways
Super steels no problem, willing to try carbides
Hapstone guided system working edge-good mirror.
Curved stones for recurves, still in "trial stage". Will be sharp but you might want to wait until I get better at these. Can send pics of most recent.
Only willing to take orders when I'm not on the road for work
Pm for details

Yea I think using that would come down to needing a different account. Not sure if they'd let you post there if you weren't charging? There's also the maintenance tinkering n embellishment forum which this probably fits better in too

I have several different types of knives and no difficulty keeping them sharp enough with a Spyderco Sharpmaker to do the work required of them. It would be nice if there was a good knife repair company to fix them if they break.

See if your neighborhood has a Facebook page. I think neighborhood apps exist too?
Anyways, offer your services. Don't forget to advise people to make a cardboard sheath - with all those deliveries cardboard is easy to come by - so people aren't going around with unsecured knives.

Ouroboros,

I am looking to sharpen super steel knives and work on some knives needing repair.
(Video reviews and sharpening)
The bulk of the people on Facebook are carrying what you can purchase at Walmart.
Buying every $200+ dollar Spyderco that comes out to make a video is not cost effective.
Sharpening the knives for free provides a benefit to both the owner of the knife and myself.

Thank you for the idea...

: )

Well supersteels are unlikely, but I guarantee you some will need repair. At the least a lot will need to have a new bevel set.
