Sharpening spine serrations on Benchmade Adamas 375

So a few months back i purchased a 375 Adamas Fixed blade and it came new out the box with the spine serrations completely non sharpened so I sent it to Benchmade and they did some lame attempt, at least brought them to an (sort of) edge. They just touched the tips of each serration mind you, not the concaves between each serration. I really want these things to be usable to be sharp! So I just ordered a Smith's Diamond Retractable pen 400 grit thingy. Will this 400 grit rod suffice on the D2 spine serrations on the 375?

The diamond rod should work fine on the serrations. Might still take a while to sharpen them, if they're completely dull (un-apexed).

Benchmade may be reluctant to actually sharpen those at the factory, because a truly sharpened spine on knives is illegal in many jurisdictions around the country (and I'd assume internationally as well). Might be illegal for Benchmade to ship such knives across state lines as well. 'False edges' on spines of such knives are usually the norm. End users sharpen them at their own risk.

Thanks David that may be what it is and I'm ok with that now that I enjoy sharpening and a challenge! Yeah the dips between the serrated tips are un-apexed. The tips are apexed I know i will be able to put an edge on the tips for sure but I really want to get the whole spine blazin' sharp, if the Smith's 400 grit won't do it, is there a dmt course cone type rod hone?

Yes, there is. DMT makes a Coarse (325-mesh; 45 micron) Dia-Fold Serrated Knife Sharpener (DMT-FSKC). Here's a link to knifecenter's listing (BF member dealer); looks like they carry it.

The DMT coarse taper is a nice tool to have, I recently picked one up to complement my fine one.

I unscrewed mine from the folding handles it came with, fitted it with a longer threaded rod and screwed it into a length of fiberglass rod 1/2" diameter. A wooden dowel would work too. Makes it a lot easier to "twist" it as you work and still keep it on an even plane.
